The City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department is committed to providing every participant with a positive baseball and/or softball experience. The fabric of a sports league is held together by good sportsmanship and the mutual respect of everyone involved. The City of La Porte Park and Recreation Department believes that every participant deserves to be treated with respect. To this end, the department has developed a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FOR UMPIRE ABUSE. During the April 20, 2022, Park and Recreation Board meeting, a Zero Tolerance Policy for Umpire Abuse was presented to the board for approval. With a unanimous vote, the policy was approved and put into effect immediately. The adopted policy may be viewed at the link below.

Honor Garden Gazebo Updates
Thank you to Rotary Club of La Porte for recent improvements to the Honor Garden Gazebo in Soldiers Memorial Park. Club members have volunteered to remove sections of lattice to open up the gazebo, install a ceiling fan and stain the floor and newly opened ceiling. Additional thanks to Jimmy Pressel, Doug Stephani and Bert Stringham for assisting with the projects. We appreciate the Rotarians commitment to the park.
Installation of a natural, glacial stone seawall and dredging in Kiwanis-Teledyne Park were recently completed. The shoreline project, led by the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District and funded through a Clean Water Indiana grant and local contributions, will prevent further erosion of the shoreline, where we have been recently losing inches per year. The dredging under the pedestrian bridge, mostly funded by LaPorte County MS4, will allow flow into the pond to circulate the water. Additional work planned includes planting natives along the seawall, clearing invasive plants from along the edge of the pond and corrective measures to the stormwater collection infrastructure. Thank you to Park Board member Nicole Messacar for leading this effort and the City Engineering Department for technical support. Additional funding was provided from the LaPorte Area Lake Association and a NIPSCO Environmental Action grant
